All our trips today got a chance to see the largest and second largest whales living whales in our seas today, the blue whale and fin whale. The best time to see blue whales in our area is late summer and early fall. Fin whales can show every month of the year in the Monterey bay area. Both species showed well for all our passengers to day and made some close passes near our vessels.
The close passes by a few fin whales allowed our passengers to make out the unique details of the species. Fin whales have a white lower jaw, and only on their right side. This feature was clearly seen by our passengers today with the great sea conditions and lighting.
We also had great look at many blue whales today! One pair circled an area in search of krill and gave our passengers great looks. The amazing lighting once let us get really take in the details of the largest whale in our seas.
The early fall has been unbelievable for us here at Discovery Whale Watch! Blue whales, humpback whales and a variety of dolphins have made great appearances! Come out and join us on the water ASAP!
