a whale jumping out of the water

We had 8 whales this afternoon just north of Monterey Harbor. The sea conditions were pretty bouncy, but we still had a nice ride aboard the Chubasco for our passengers. We saw good amounts of bait fish (likely anchovies) on our depth sounder as we moved along the shore between Monterey and Marina. This is very likely the reason why the whales have been staying in that area. We did not observe any obvious feeding, but that is normal for this time of year.
